ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Illinois (KMOV) – Authorities are looking for a suspect involved in six suspicious fires that have broken out at buildings in and around the Freeburg area over the past couple weeks.

The first fire happened at a metal shed in the 6700 block of Press Road on April 23. A week later, a fire broke out at another metal shed in the 4600 block of Carr.

Three fires again were started on Monday in the Freeburg area, including one that nearly leveled the Freeburg Township Building in the 700 block of Hill Mine Road. That fire destroyed heavy equipment worth thousands of dollars.

Another fire swept through a barn Thursday night at a cattle farm in the 3000 block of Turkey Hill Lane.

According to authorities, the fires have occurred at different times of the day and are mostly in rural areas. The buildings are located far away from houses, but near roadways, authorities said.

Anyone with information on the fires is asked to contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department at 618-825-5712. Crimestoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects involved.  They can be reached at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).
