(KMOV.com) -- The new cover on Time magazine showing a 26-year-old woman breastfeeding her 3-year-old son is stirring up controversy.
On Thursday, Twitter lit up with posts about the magazine's cover with thousands of people asking if Time went too far with their latest publication.
The article the photo coincides with tackles the topic of attachment parenting.
"Whoa! Time Magazine's cover is something else," @eonline tweeted. @bostondotcom news tweeted, "Has attachment parenting gone too far? Time magazine's latest cover is causing quite a stir."
The woman's name is Jamie Lynne Grumet and her son's name is Aram.  She runs a blog named "I am Not the Babysitter."  According to Grumet's site, her goal for the blog is to "write about our experiences with adoption, attachment parenting, travel and any other unique lifestyle choice we may make."
The cover came as quite a shock to some because it's rare to see a child as old as Aram still breastfeeding.  KAIT8.com reported that Time said their philosophy behind the photo was the desire to drive home the point that a child old enough to stand and suckle at his mother's breast was not a typical sight.

In North America, extended breastfeeding is considered a taboo act after a child's first birthday, according to an article in the Journal of Tropical Pediatrics.  According to another pediatrics journal article, it is not uncommon in other parts of the world for a child to breastfeed up to or past the age of 3.
