Woman killed after vehicle leaves I-70, lands on adjacent road

(KMOV.com) -- A Warrenton woman is dead after she was struck by a man who wrecked while towing a trailer in Warren County Monday afternoon.

This accident happened around 3:20 p.m. on a service road adjacent to westbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 188.

According to authorities, Jeremy Mitchell, 31, was pulling a U-Haul trailer along I-70 when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle.  Mitchell left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and onto a service road.

Alanna Gierier, 30, was traveling on the service road and hit Mitchell's vehicle head-on.  The trailer Mitchell was pulling became detached.

Gierier was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, where she later died.

Mitchell was not injured.

Investigators were still determininging what caused Mitchell to lose control.
