PLATTSBURG, Mo. (AP) -- A northwest Missouri man is jailed after being charged in the shooting death of his son.
Clinton County investigators say Richard D. Vardy's wife was injured in the same shooting Wednesday at the family's home in Plattsburg.
Vardy was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports (http://bit.ly/y43ihJ) court records allege Vardy fired one shot at his son, Richard Jason Vardy. The bullet hit his wife, Mary Vardy, in the head before striking his son in the chest.
Mary Vardy was hospitalized in stable condition.
Clinton County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Burris said investigators were working to determine a motive for the shooting.
Online court records do not list an attorney for Vardy.
