(KMOV) -- African-Americans are killed in Missouri at a higher rate than anywhere else in the country.
Those homicides are seven times the national, overall murder rate. The Violence Policy Center, a national educational organization, released the findings on Wednesday. In Missouri almost 35 of every 100,000 African-Americans are murdered. Most are black men, killed by gun violence.
According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department statistics, out of 114 homicides last year, 100 were African-Americans.
"It really does not surprise me," James Clark of Better Family Life and the 'Put Down the Pistol Campaign' said. "We understand that our neighborhoods are in dire need of resources now, and too often if our people do not have access to jobs, to job training and other resources that will help stabilize the family, a culture of crime and violence will follow."
Missouri has been at the top of this list for two consecutive years.
