Illinois police issuing tickets for seatbelt offenders

(KMOV) – Illinois police will start issuing drivers ticketsfor each person not wearing a seat belt in your car.

The new seat belt law went into effect January 1st. The change mandates that all occupants of a vehicle must be wearing seat belts or be secured in a car seat or receive a $60 ticket. 

Prior to this law, adults in the back seat were not required to buckle up.
Officers said they want educate the public and save lives.
