(KMOV.com) -- A man who was walking along the street in north St. Louis was beaten by three suspects and then shot in the hand.
According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of 16th Street and Cass Avenue around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. The 28-year-old victim told police he was walking down the street when three men jumped him. They started kicking and punching him. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and started running. As he was running, someone fired shots, striking him in the hand.
Police said the victim was able to make it to a location in the 5100 block of St. Louis Avenue and call police. He was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The victim only described the three attackers as black males. Police reported that the victim was unfamiliar with the area, but are not certain if he was targeted.
News 4 asked police if this could have been another case of the "Knockout Game, " but police said it was not likely since the victim was too young. Normally, they said, older, more vulnerable people are targeted in the "game."
