(KMOV) -- A 16-year-old was shot in the head and pronounced dead late Sunday night after a gun battle occurred at Lillian and Thrush Avenues in north St. Louis.
Police say after the shooting there was a brief car chase that ended at Holly and West Florissant Avenues. Police used spike strips to stop the suspect's vehicle. The driver got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. In the front passanger seat, police found the teenager who had been shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and another passanger were taken into police custody.
St. Louis Alderman Antonio French says the violence over the weekend, including three more city shootings, is a crisis. He says police need to focus more on the areas where violence occurs the most.
Police have put an emphaiss on stopping crime. City officials say homicides have been reduced by 80%. Alderman French says this shooting is still a huge setback for the community.
