(KMOV.com) -- Two people are in custody after police said they found a dead body in a car following a north St. Louis gun battle Sunday night.
According to authorities, the shooting happened near the intersection of Lillian and Thrush in the Walnut Park East neighborhood. Police said they got a call around 10 p.m. about several people involved in a gun battle in the area. The person who called police said multiple suspects in a dark-colored Bonneville started shooting at people, then those people started shooting back.
The anti-crime unit spotted the suspect vehicle and followed it. The vehicle did not stop, so officers had to lay down spike strips at the intersection of Holly and West Florissant. The vehicle hit the spikes and the driver stopped. That driver got out of the vehicle and ran. After a short foot chase, officers took the driver into custody.
In the front passenger seat, they found another man who had been shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was also taken into custody.
Police did not say if anyone else was in the vehicle.
