ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) -- An Elk Grove Village man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for injuring a Chicago police officer following a high-speed chase.
The Kane County State's Attorney's office says 24-year-old Andrzej Wojtkielewicz was sentenced Friday.
He was convicted in September for aggravated battery to a police officer stemming from the 2009 incident.
That's when a Chicago police officer tried to stop Wojtkielewicz's car after receiving a tip that he was carrying a large amount of cocaine and a firearm.
Wojtkielewicz fled west on Interstate 90 at speeds of up to 100 mph. When police officers approached his car after he stopped at the Elgin Toll Plaza, Wojtkielewicz put his car in reverse and knocked one officer down, then drove toward another officer, who fired at the windshield.
