Freezing rain hits metro area, stalls evening commute

(KMOV.com) -- A wintry mix of ice and freezing rain hit the St. Louis and surrounding areas on Friday evening prompting multiple accidents and lane closures during the evening commute.
 
Evening rush hour drivers were at a stand stll on most interstate with accidents involving multiple cars and ice. Some major roadways were closed due to the icy conditions making the road dangerous.
 
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the St. Louis area Friday afternoon in anticipation of a snow and rain mix that impacted the St. Louis area Friday evening.
 
Some areas saw light rain, freezing rain or drizzle, and in some spots, a little sleet.  The St. Louis metropolitan area and areas south and east were all affected by the advisory.
