(KMOV) – The director of the Missouri Department of Transportation talked to lawmakers about the possibility of drivers paying to drive on Interstate 70.
MoDOT Director Kevin Keith says I-70 needs to be widened and paved and, if not, the 60-year-old interstate will eventually turn into a gravel parking lot.
Most of the people in attendance at today’s hearing believe the toll road idea is not very popular.
The proposed toll could reach 15 cents per mile for cars and twice as much for truckers.
The other idea is to increase Missouri’s tax on gas to 15 cents more per gallon. That tax would last for at least a decade.
