Local community college defends decision not to warn students of nearby gunman

(KMOV) – St. Louis Community College officials are defending their decision not to warn students of a potential gunman at the Forest Park campus after shots were fired near the college on Wednesday morning.

Police did seal off the campus after the shooting just west of the campus as a precaution and says there was never a real threat.

Witnesses seen one man shooting at another near Oakland and Highland and it is believed that the shooter ran away from the campus following the incident.

Officers ran drills with the St. Louis police for this type of incident last fall and defend its decision not to use the school’s text alert system.
