SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois Supreme Court is naming a long-time manager as new director of the administrative office of the Illinois courts.
Michael Tardy has been with the administrative office for about 24 years and has served in the judicial system for nearly four decades.
Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride announced the appointment Tuesday. Tardy has been acting director since September when former director Cynthia Cobbs resigned to become a circuit judge.
The administrative director is a constitutionally created position which assists the high court by preparing and presenting items for discussion by justices regarding the court system.
The administrative office conducts judicial elections, develops budgets, provides legislative support and collects and publishes statistics on court caseloads and case flow.
