(KMOV) -- A family of eight was robbed at gunpoint in Washington Park after their car ran out of gas early Monday morning.
Police say two adults and their six kids were headed home from grandma's house around 1:10 a.m., when they ran out of gas near 45th Street and Bunkham Road.
The mother called for assistance from her mother whose house they just left. Both mother and grandma left the father and six kids to get gas.
While the women were gone, two young black males, armed with handguns, allegedly approached the car and began robbing the remaining family members.
The two suspects attempted to carjack the family vehicle but couldn’t without gas. Authorities say the suspects waited until the women got back to steal the grandmother’s car instead.
According to police, the suspects robbed the grandma and mother when they returned, then took off with grandma’s car.
Police are looking for the grandmother’s 2000 White Ford Explorer with Illinois license plates K88-9613.
The family was not injured.
