BELLEVILLE, Il. (KMOV) – An elderly man who was reported missing from a Belleville rehab center on Saturday was found dead in a wooded area near the care facility Monday morning.
Officials with the Belleville Police Department said Aubrey Giles, 75, went missing from Midwest Rehab around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Midwest Rehab is in the 700 block of North 17th Street in Belleville, Illinois.
Police report they found Giles dead in a wooded area , also located in the 700 block of North 17th Street, near the care facility in Belleville around 10:45 a.m. on Monday.
Giles suffered from dementia and police said the family had grown concerned after reports that he left the facility without adequate clothing to protect him from the cold temperatures.
Belleville Police said they do not suspect foul play at this time, but will conduct an autopsy to determine exactly what happened.
It is not clear if the facility had any type of lock on the doors to prevent residents from leaving unknowingly. The Giles family and representatives with Midwest Rehab have not made any comment on the situation.
Midwest Rehab released the following statement: ""We extend our condolences to the family. We are conducting our own, internal investigation of what happened."
