(KMOV) – Natural gas prices are at its lowest levels in two years, but for some residents the price will increase.
Ameren UE Illinois is quick to defend the increase because it, too, has bills to pay.
Small business owner Tim Faltus says the cost of utilities for his seven businesses totals more than $4,000 a month and raising rent for his tenants is not an option.
"A few dollars in this economy is so significant to almost everyone and I am no exception as a business owner. Every nickel counts," Faltus said.
An Ameren Illinois spokeswoman told News 4 that the increase to customers’ bills is to cover its cost of maintaining a system that serves 813,000 natural gas customers.
Depending on where you live, the increase will cost you as much as 5% more and Ameren Illinois says it’s the delivery service charge that is going up.
