St. Charles City Council vote furthers new riverfront development

The riverfront in St. Charles may get a new look.

The city council voted Tuesday evening to give developer Michael Sellenschutter the authority to approach stage agencies and the corps of engineers to fine tune his plans.

He wants to build a marina, hotel, retail shops, restaurants and upscale residences along a section stretching from Interstate 70 to the Family Arena. The plans also include the construction of a seawall and canal.

The project is estimated to cost about $1 billion.

St. Charles City Council still has to approve the $120 million in taxpayer funding Sellenschutter is seeking for the project.
