BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A Chesterfield man faces a criminal charge for allegedly hitting a fellow player in the face with a hockey stick during a recreational game.

Kevin Stephens, 27, was charged with second-degree assault for the incident, which happened at the Brentwood Recreation Complex in October.

According to police, Stephens swung at the other player during a no-contact hockey game. The attack reportedly happened outside of regular play.

Police say the man's jaw was broken in multiple places, and now requires permanent screws.

Stephens was released from custody after posting bond.
