SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man has been charged after police say he assaulted his mother and stole her car on Tuesday.

Police said William Hoffee, 35, has been charged with second-degree robbery, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest.

According to reports, the incident started around 3:30 a.m. in the 9900 block of Pointe South Drive in south St. Louis County. Police said Hoffee assaulted his mother, took her car and debit card, then fled from the scene.

Police later found the vehicle crashed on South Rock Hill Road around 5 a.m. It had crashed into a building. Police said Hoffee had fled the crash scene by the time they arrived.

Hoffee’s mother told authorities that he returned home around 6 a.m. and told her what happened. The mother called police.

As officers attempted to arrest the suspect, a struggle ensued. No officers were injured.

Hoffee is being held on $35,000 bond at the St. Louis County jail.
