Rams defense shuts down Bills Spiller, Jackson

BUFFALO (FootballStL) -- Coming into Sunday’s game against the Bills, the Rams knew they would have to stop the top rushing team in the AFC.  Mission accomplished.

The Rams held the Bills, a team that averaged 147.9 rushing yards per game, to 78 yards in the 15-12 victory.

C.J. Spiller entered the game averaging 6.6 yards per carry.  He rushed for 37 yards on only seven attempts.

Fred Jackson rushed for 109 yards on 25 carries last week against the Jaguars.  He rushed for 14 yards on nine carries before leaving the game with a knee injury.

The Rams rush defense has been a major factor for the team’s success during a three-game win streak, its first since 2006.  Last week, 49ers running back Frank Gore was held to 58 yards on 23 carries.  The week prior, Cardinals running back Chris Wells rushed for 48 yards on 17 carries in a 31-17 loss to the Rams.

The impressive streak will need to continue for at least another week when the Rams face the Vikings, the third-best rushing offense in the league, next week at the Edward Jones Dome.
