Driver, passenger arrested after car crashes into Granite City bar

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Two people were arrested for alcohol-related offenses after a vehicle crashed into a bar in Granite City on Thursday morning.
The accident happened at Patty McD's Tavern, located in the 5500 block of Maryville Road, just before 8 a.m.
Police say officers arrived at the scene and determined a vehicle had struck the front door of the bar. The crash caused significant damage to the business, according to police, and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.
Authorities say the vehicle was then located a short distance from the bar.
Darryl Bennett, 20, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a traffic crash, failure to reduce speed, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. Police say he was the driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, and displayed signs of being intoxicated.
Kira Peppers, 19, was a passenger in the suspect vehicle. She was arrested for unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor.
Both Bennett and Peppers were transported to the Madison County Jail.
