CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- The city of Champaign is in the market for some new fire trucks and just about anyone could end up with old ones—if they submit the highest bid.
The city plans to auction three old fire trucks on eBay.
The Champaign News-Gazette reports that the trucks destined for online auctions include a 50-year-old model that doesn’t always start and two 18-year-old trucks with about 90,000 miles on them.
Fire Chief Doug Forsman says the city expects to get $,5,000 to $10,000 for each.
That won’t help much with the cost of the new engines. The city plans to spend almost $1.5 million on them.
