GRANITE CITY, Ill (KMOV) – Police have charged a suspect they arrested Sunday in connection with a fatal hit and run accident.

Gabrielle Parent is charged with failure to report an accident involving death, a class-one felony.

The victim, 50-year-old Shari L. Watts, was found dead Saturday morning along the northbound lane of Route 3, half a mile south of Niedringhaus Avenue.

Police received several calls from motorists reporting a body along the roadway around 7 a.m. Authorities say they believe the woman was hit several hours before she was discovered.

Watts, an East Alton resident, is believed to have been in the Brooklyn, Ill. area around 7:30 p.m. Friday. Police say she may have been seeking a ride home at the time.

Parent's bond is set at $30,000.
