COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) -- Police say a suspect who cut through the roof of the Collinsville Walmart in an apparent attempted burglary Monday morning is wanted for similar burglaries throughout the area.
Authorities on Tuesday said they believe the suspect is also responsible for burglaries at other Walmart locations throughout the Metro East.
According to police reports, employees heard a disturbance coming from the roof of the Collinsville Walmart around 3 a.m. Monday morning.
Officers from Collinsville, Glen Carbon, and the Ilinois State Police responded to the Collinsville Crossing shopping center along Illinois 157.
Police found that someone had opened a hatch on the roof and then tried to cut through the ceiling of a room where money was located in the store.
Police set up a perimeter around the building to watch for anyone coming down from the roof. The Collinsville Fire Department used thermal imaging camera to determine if anyone was in between the roof and ceiling.
Authorities say no burglars were found. Police believe the suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.
Police say they determined during an investigation the same man committed other thefts at Walmarts in O’Fallon, Ill, Belleville and Litchfield over the last few months.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-8477. A reward may be given for any info that leads to an arrest.
