CLAYTON, Mo. -- A St. Louis County man has been sentenced to a year in jail and two years of probation for giving alcohol to his 12-year-old stepson shortly before the boy drowned.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 43-year-old Todd Combs was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in May to seven counts of second-degree child endangerment.

Combs gave alcohol to seven minors during a family outing last August along the Meramec River in Pacific, Mo. One of the minors was his stepson, Christopher Marks.

Christopher was last seen swinging on a rope near the river. After a massive search, it was Combs who found Christopher’s body a few days later and a few miles away.
