Alorton, Il. (KMOV) Michael David Cooper, 40, of Alorton is charged with felony home invasion and discharging a firearm.

Belleville police say he entered a home in the 1200 block of North 17th Street in Belleville just before 10 p.m. Friday and fired a weapon.

The investigation led police to the Greystone Apartment Complex in Alorton, where they found the suspect's vehicle.

According to Captain John Moody, Operations Commander with the Belleville Police Department, Cooper barricaded himself in his apartment, and refused to communicate with police.

Twelve other units in the apartment complex were evacuated as a safety precaution. No other residents were injured. Officers from Belleville, Alorton, Centerville, and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Around 4:45 a.m., a Special Response Team used an armored vehicle to breach the apartment, breaking through the window and door.

Police say Cooper was transported to the hospital with injuries. The arrest was made without incident, according to Captain Moody. Moody says Cooper may have sustained some self-inflicted wounds.
