Vaughn: Historic sports moments on Independence Day

(KMOV) -- July 4th is all about being patriotic and honoring our great country. It's also been a busy and important sports day over the years. Perhaps the most note worthy thing to happen in a Cardinals game on July 4th came in 2000, when Keith McDonald hit a pinch home run in a 14-3 victory over the Reds. McDonald became just the third Cardinal in history to homer in his first career at bat, joining Eddie Morgan (1936) and Wally Moon (1954).

Here are a few other notable sports events that occurred on July 4th.
