(BaseballStL) -- A pinched nerve kept Matt Holliday out of the starting lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals for the second time in as many days on Wednesday.
Holliday, who missed the series opener against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Tuesday, was scratched and replaced by Allen Craig in left field on Wednesday.
The Cardinals offense didn’t appear to miss Holliday, who is second on the team with 11 home runs, en route to a pounding of the Angels in a 12-2 win.
The offense chased Angels starter Jerome Williams with two outs recorded in the seven-run second inning. Williams allowed all seven runs on four hits and four walks in 1.2 innings pitched.
The Angels bullpen was tacked for another five runs after Williams’ departure.
