(BaseballStL) -- Adam Wainwright was named National League Pitcher of the Month for the month of June on Wednesday.
Wainwright finished the month with a 4-2 record, but led the majors with 45.2 innings pitched and was tied for the league lead in wins. He also finished in the top five with a 1.77 ERA, fourth-lowest, and 40 strikeouts, the league’s fifth-highest total.
The Cardinals ace capped off the month with a dominating one-run complete game victory over the Oakland Athletics on June 29. It was the fourth complete game of the season and the second of the month for Wainwright.
During June, Wainwright also achieved his 1,000th career strikeout in a 2-1 win against the New York Mets on June 13.
This is the first time Wainwright received a monthly honor in his career and the first for a Cardinals pitcher since Chris Carpenter won the honor for the month of August in 2009.
Wainwright has posted an 11-5 record with a 2.22 ERA in 17 starts this season.
