(KMOV) – Police on Wednesday suspended the search for a man and his teenage son who went missing near the Meramec River Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities initially suspended their search for the two, but decided to do another sweep on water, land and air after talking with everyone associated in the rescue efforts. That second search effort was called off shortly before 4 p.m.
A woman called St. Louis County Police on Tuesday after she lost sight of her husband and 16-year-old son around 12:45 p.m. near Lost Hill Lane and Franklin Road. That is near the Pacific Palisades.
Michael Hill, 36, and David Hill are considered missing and nothing in the investigation has led authorities to believe an accidental drowning took place.
Police said no foul play is suspected.
The woman told police her family was in the area visiting when her husband and son went looking to fish in the Pacific Palisades Conservation area. When they found a spot, the woman and her young grandson came to meet them, but they never met up.
Officers on the scene took the woman in for questioning.
Police said she was cooperating with authorities. The family’s van was reportedly being searched by a crime scene unit.
Investigators say the woman recently returned home from a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy.
The St. Louis County Police have taken the lead in the investigation.
