(KMOV.com) -- Local faith communities are hosting a Toy Gun Exchange Day throughout the St. Louis area next Saturday.

Officials said parents and children can bring in toy guns and violent video games in exchange for non-violent toys and games.

The local churches involved in the drive said they want the event to spark meaningful conversations about the culture of violence and change the way kids engage in dramatic play.

The Toy Gun Exchange Day has three locations throughout the area that include the O’Fallon Park Recreation Complex, North County Recreation Complex and the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center.

Additional information on times and locations can be found on the Toy Gun Exchange website.

The Toy Gun Buy Back Initiative is a grass roots effort initiated by local faith communities in an attempt to bring awareness to the ever pervasive culture of violence in the St. Louis region.

Launched in March 2013 in the basement of Washington Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, it was designed by a consortium of 43 organizations and agencies consisting of clergy, educators, child and youth services providers, youth development experts, academics, non-profit and corporate executives, law enforcement, business owners and community leaders.
