(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright to the mound to face the Oakland Athletics’ Jarrod Parker on Saturday afternoon.
After winning five straight starts, Wainwright has dropped his last two starts including a 2-1 loss to the Texas Rangers at home on June 23. He has lost three consecutive games only three times in his career. The last time came September 11, 2012.
Wainwright was pulled with two outs in the sixth inning after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk. It sparked a spat between Wainwright and Matheny over the decision. Wainwright later apologized for his actions.
It will be only the second time Wainwright has faced the Athletics. He allowed one unearned run in eight innings pitched in his only start against Oakland on June 19, 2010.
Oakland will send Jarrod Parker to the mound to oppose the Cardinals ace. He has posted a 6-6 record with a 4.27 earned-run average through the first 16 starts this season.
Parker has been impressive over his last six starts for a 4-0 record with a 2.34 ERA and a .176 opponents batting average.
The month of June has been particularly kind to Parker. He is 3-0 with a 2.29 ERA in June and is 6-1 with a 2.24 ERA in 10 career starts in the month.
Parker received a no-decision in his last start, a 6-3 10-inning loss at the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits and a walk over seven innings pitched.
