Update: Missing teen killed in Columbia died day of protection hearing

(KMOV.com) -- A teenage girl found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s Columbia, Ill. home apparently was killed the same day she was to appear with him for a court hearing on a protection order issued against him on her behalf.

Investigators say the body Erin Schneider, 17, was found shortly after noon Thursday in the 200 block of Riebeling, after Schneider’s parents asked police to check that residence for their daughter. The ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Jordan Kuykendall, shares the home with his brother, Justin Kuykendall.

The Associated Press obtained a copy of the emergency protection order on Friday.

Schneider’s mother had obtained the order June 13 on her daughter’s behalf. It was to have been argued in court an hour after the victim’s body was found.

Police say two hours before Schneider's body was discovered, the ex-boyfriend was hospitalized after his car crashed head-on with another vehicle near his home. He is in stable condition late Friday.

Deputy Commander Thomas Coppotelli said an autopsy revealed Schneider died of multiple stab wounds to the neck and upper torso. He said no arrests have been made, and the investigation is focused on one person of interest.

Records indicate Justin Kuykendall is on the Illinois State Sex Offender Registry. Investigators said he is not considered a person of interest in the case.

A prayer vigil was held for Schneider at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia on Friday. About 60 people were in attendance.
