(KMOV) – A Maryland Heights man has been charged with dragging two police officers with his vehicle on Friday morning.

Matthew Thomas, 23, faces charges of attempted assault on a law enforcement officer and two counts of armed criminal action.

Authorities said a male and female officer pulled Thomas over in the 31000 block of Edwards around 7 a.m.

Police said the officers were trying to get Thomas out of the car when he drove off. Authorities said the doors of the suspect’s vehicle were open and both the male and female officer were dragged a short distance.

Both officers were transported to the hospital. Officials said the female officer’s injuries were more serious, but not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said Thomas abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Officers from several police departments searched for the suspect with K-9 units and eventually apprehended him.

The suspect’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

Thomas is held on a $200,000 cash bond.
