(KMOV) -- Three sex offenders have been arrested by St. Clair County deputies for failing to comply with the requirements of their registry and more arrests could be on the way.

So News 4’s Lauren Trager went with deputies as they tracked offenders down.

She found toys and a deflated swimming pool: sure signs of kids.

But a sex offender is registered to that very same Belleville home and he didn’t tell deputies he was living with two little girls.

“This is one that really does concern you?” asked Trager. “It does, it does, there are some questions that need to be answered,” said Sgt. George Mokriakow.

It’s St. Clair county deputies’ job to keep eyes on every single sex offender in the county. That’s far from an easy task.

The convicts are required to report their every move.

A new job, car, even an email address: if they don’t tell deputies, they could be hauled off to jail.

We are trying to get this done as quickly and efficiently as possible because they have to other cases to work too,” said Sheriff Rick Watson.

Sheriff Watson says they make compliance checks four times a year, more than the state requires. Still some sneak around the system.

“Would there be any way to do the checks more often?” Trager asked. “Would there be a way, oh yeah, but it takes a lot of time,” said Sheriff Watson.

Cautiously the deputies approached, coming face to face with the offender.

Most sex offenders were doing the right thing. Although, that didn’t make unknowing neighbors feel better.

“What do you think about the fact there’s a sex offender living right next door?” Trager asked one neighbor. “Well, I don’t like it all, for one we’ve got kids on this block,” he said. He asked not to be identified.

Back at the Belleville home neighbors want answers.

“If he’s done wrong, he needs to pay for what he’s done and keep the area safe here.

The deputies say they won’t stop until it’s done.
