HOUSTON – A Houston father is accused of threatening to hurt a 9-year-old boy he felt stole money from his daughter at a day care.

David Dewayne Laws, 41, was charged with making a terroristic threat.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Laws arrived to pick up his daughter from the day care on June 13. After he got there, he realized she no longer had the money that she had when she was dropped off at the school, so he became angry.

A day care worker said Laws accused the 9-year-old boy of stealing the money and went into a tirade. He allegedly stormed into the classroom, pointed his finger in the boy’s face, called him a thief and said “if it is not yours, you should not take it.”

He then went on to make a threat saying that if it happened again, there would be “more than words between me and your dad,” according to court documents.

The father then told the same thing to the day care supervisor as he was leaving.

The little boy said he was frightened, believing that Laws would hurt his daddy. The boy was crying and visibly upset, witnesses said.

Authorities determined because Laws is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 250 pounds and made verbal threats of violence when speaking to the minor; he unlawfully placed the boy in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

They then moved forward with filing the misdemeanor charge. Laws’ bail was set at $500.
