(KMOV) - A father has been charged with driving under the influence in an accident that killed his wife and their two children in Macoupin County.
According to Illinois State Police, Alfredo McGee, Sr. was driving a Chevrolet Impala on Interstate 55 when it appeared to stop in the middle of the interstate on Oct. 25. A white cargo van then rear-ended their Chevrolet Impala.
McGee‘s wife and two sons were killed in the crash. Their two daughters were transported with non-life threatening injuries.
Police believed McGee had been drinking and driving at the time of the collision. The driver of the white van was not injured and was cleared from the investigation.
Authorities say at some point the charges against McGee could be upgraded following a complete investigation of the accident.
McGee is still hospitalized with injuries from the crash and not in police custody. He was formally charged with DUI in connection with the crash on Thursday.
