AUSTIN, Texas -- Emergency personnel in a helicopter have rescued four people stranded by high water and clinging to trees to escape Central Texas floodwaters.
The Hays County Sheriff’s Office had no immediate reports of injuries Thursday from storm-related flooding.
A spokesman for Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services says a helicopter hoisted four people to safety. Warren Hassinger says the individuals were trapped in a rural area near Buda. He had no immediate additional details.
The National Weather Service on Thursday issued flash flooding warnings for Travis, Comal, Hays, Freestone, Limestone, Anderson, Bastrop, Caldwell and Lee counties.
Police in San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin, say homes along River Road were evacuated. An emergency shelter was set up in Wimberley, 30 miles southwest of Austin, for evacuees from along Cypress Creek.
