(KMOV.com) -- If someone flashes a badge near St. Charles County, authorites are urging residents to take a close look.
A police officer’s badge and gun were stolen during a vehicle break-in.
St. Charles police tell News 4 the badge and gun do not belong to a St. Charles officer.
They will only say the victim works for a law enforcement agency somewhere in St. Charles County.
The break-in happened in the parking lot of Culpepper’s Bar and Grill on October 19.
Police got the call shortly before 5:30 that afternoon.
The thief got away not only with the officer’s gun and badge, but their passport, business cards and iPad as well as other personal items.
It’s believed the weapon was a semi automatic handgun and not the officer’s service weapon.
St. Charles police say different police departments have different policies on securing weapons.
The Sheriff’s Department says it recommends weapons never be left in vehicles.
According to the St. Charles police the investigation is ongoing, though they do have a suspect and are hoping to make an arrest soon.
