(BaseballSTL) -- Lance Lynn takes the ball tonight from Mike Matheny with a chance to pitch the Cardinals to a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series. He says he’ll keep it simple against the Red Sox hitters.
“The only thing that matters is throwing strikes and quality strikes. If you’re able to do that with these hitters and most major league hitters... you’re not going to be able to blow the ball by these guys unless you have stuff like (Trevor) Rosenthal and (Carlos) Martinez,” Lynn said, “It’s just about making pitches and changing speeds. You do that, you should be all right.”
David Ortiz continues to be the biggest threat in the Red Sox lineup. He enters Game with a .625 average in the World Series with two homeruns, and another hit that would have been a grand slam if not for a great catch by Carlos Beltran.
How will Lynn approach Big Papi?
“Not giving him anything to hit out of the ballpark hopefully,” said Lynn. “Just want to make sure you don’t let him beat you. They have a lot of guys capable of doing damage, but I’m ok with not giving him anything good to hit. My game plan is to not let him get anything up in the air.”
