(BaseballStL) -- Used as a designated hitter in the first two games of the World Series, Allen Craig will not start in the DH-less Game 3 in St. Louis on Saturday.

Craig went 2-for-7 with a walk in his return from a foot injury suffered on September 4 and fielded ground balls at the Cardinals’ off-day workout on Friday. But still, Craig will not be in the lineup for Game 3.

“As far as throwing him out there defensively, it’s a process,” manager Mike Matheny said. “He took some more ground balls.  He feels good and made a stride forward today.  That may end up happening, but right now the timing, we just can't do it yet, as far as a start goes.  But not to say we can't insert him into the game defensively later on.”

Matt Adams will make the start again and bat in the cleanup position against Jake Peavy and the Red Sox.

Also of note, Pete Kozma is back in the starting lineup to play shortstop and bat eighth in front of starter Joe Kelly.

As expected, David Ortiz will start at first base for the Red Sox. Ortiz, the team’s typical DH, gets the nod over everyday first baseman Mike Napoli. Ortiz is batting 11-for-41 (.268) with five home runs and 12 RBI in 12 postseason games this year. He has a home run in each of the first two games in this World Series.
