Happening Today: "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day"

(KMOV.com) – Area residents with unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs can turn them in for proper disposal on "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day."

Several police departments around the area will be participating in the "Take Back Day" program on October 26.The St. Charles Police will be accepting unwanted drugs at its police headquarters between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

“Basically, you come in here, you can bring it in the original container,” said Erik Lawrenz of the St. Charles Police. “We'll go ahead and dispose of it properly, you don't have to worry about your name on the prescription containers because we take, it give it to DEA and the DEA will incinerate the drugs."

Drugs flushed down the toilet can end up in drinking water. The Drug Enforcement Agency says in the previous six “Take Back Days” people around the U.S. have turned in 2.8 million pounds of drugs.
