(BaseballStL) -- Even if Carlos Beltran had missed Game 2 of the World Series due to bruised ribs, given how they always seem to rise up when things are stacked against them, the Cardinals may just have found a way to win.

But there's no denying having Beltran back in this lineup helped immensely.

The Cards outfielder ran into the right field wall in Game 1 and had to leave for the hospital for X-Rays and a CT scan, and while both came back negative, there was still doubt as to whether or not he'd be in too much pain to continue.

About an hour before game time his name was in the lineup.  And it never came out.  His teammates expected nothing less.

"He's that type of player," Trevor Rosenthal said. "He's going to battle and knowing him he's going to lay it all out on the line, especially after seeing that play (in Game 1) going against the wall.  He wants to be out there and he is going to do whatever it takes."

"He's unbelievable," Yadier Molina said. "Seeing him in the lineup was a difference maker.  To see a guy like him in the lineup makes a huge difference."

"Obviously having Carlos (Beltran) in the lineup is a huge plus for us," David Freese said. "Even if he wasn't going to be in the lineup we'd still go out there and try to take care of business.  We've had guys go down year after year after year like any other team.  You just got to deal with the injuries and keep moving."

Beltran only went 2-4 with an RBI in Game 2 and looked in complete control at all times.  He didn't appear to wince even once in pain.
