(KMOV) -- Three suspects are in custody in connection with an alleged plot for an armed robbery in St. Peters.

Jason Britton, 35, of St. Charles, Rami Abdel-Aaal, 24, of St. Louis and Joseph Middendorf Jr., 37, from Hazelwood are charged with attempted first-degree burglary and armed criminal action.

According to court documents, the plot came to light after an inmate at the St. Charles County Jail bragged to cellmates that his mother had won a lawsuit and had $25,000 in cash at her home. The details about the money were passed along to someone outside the jail and a plot was allegedly hatched among the three suspects to rob the woman.

Court documents say an acquaintance of the three suspects was a police informant and tipped off authorities.  The informant agreed to wear a wire to tape record the suspects.

On Tuesday, prosecutors say the three suspects and the informant met up on Second Street in St. Charles and drove to the woman's home.

Police say when the men arrived at the home, members of the St. Charles County Regional SWAT team were waiting and took the men into custody.

Police say a shotgun was recovered from the back of a Ford Explorer driven by the suspects.

According to authorities, Middendorf told investigators that Britton was to be the lookout while Abdel-Aal was to force his way into the home. Abdel-Aal and Middendorf were to subdue the victim at gunpoint.

Investigators say that Britton has denied any involvement in the incident or in the conversations leading up to the attempted burglary

Bail for all three suspects has been set at $50,000.
