FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a southern Illinois man has pleaded guilty to armed robbery and gun violations in connection with the robbery of a gas station on two separate occasions.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports investigators said the July robbery of the Circle K gas station netted London Brown of Belleville $100, while the August robbery netted him $358.

U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton said Wednesday the 21-year-old Brown was prosecuted under the Hobbs Act, which makes robbery a federal crime if interstate commerce is obstructed or delayed by a robbery.

Brown was arrested after a foot chase following the August robbery. Authorities say he later admitted to the robbery, telling investigators he intended to use some of the proceeds from the robberies to pay his girlfriend's telephone bill.
