(Missouri Football App) – Maty Mauk is coming off a stellar debut.
Mauk’s stat line was very impressive for a redshirt freshman making his first start: 18-36 for 295 yards along with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. There is no doubt Mauk was very impressive, but can he do it again?
Against South Carolina, such a performance will be difficult to duplicate. Carolina allows less than 200 passing yards per game and has only allowed 300 yards through the air twice this season. Mauk will also be facing arguably the best defensive lineman all of college football in Jadeveon Clowney. The offensive line’s top task will be keeping Clowney in check.
The Gamecocks also have an advantage that Florida did not: film on Mauk. As well as the native of Kenton, OH played, the Gators had no history to game plan off of. The equation changes when your opponent can watch film that allows it to pick up your tendencies and pick out your weaknesses.
Mauk performed at a high level against a talented defense last week. If he keeps things simple and trusts his receivers as he did against the Gators, he will continue to execute at a high level.
