PINE LAWN (KMOV.com) -

A teen is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a Pine Lawn police officer March 8.

17-year-old Tyreece Young has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.

According to police, the officer was working a secondary job at the Skate King, located in the 2700 block of Kienlen Avenue, when he heard multiple gunshots coming from across the street around 7:00 p.m. The officer, believing a crime was being committed, headed towards the intersection of Creston and Stillwell.

As the officer headed towards the intersection, he heard more gunshots, screeching car tires and saw glass being shot out of a passing vehicle. The officer then heard a woman scream and was confronted by Young, according to police.

When the officer announced he was with police, Young pointed a silver handgun at him, police say. The officer, fearing for his life, then fired two gunshots at Young.

After the shots were fired, Young ran to a gray Ford Taurus and entered the passenger side of the vehicle, which made a U-turn and left the scene, according to police.

Police do not believe either of the shots fired from the officer struck Young.

Last month Young was charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful use of a weapon.

Young is being held on a $100,000 bond.
