(KMOV ) -- This Memorial Day will be one a family never forgets. A man stationed in Afghanistan saw his wife give birth to their daughter.
Mark Nienhuis has been in Afghanistan for more than five months. He won't be back for good until January.
This morning he watched his wife Jessica give birth to his 8 lbs 5 oz daughter Zaylee via Skype.
Yet it almost never happened. Jessica Nienhuis says when she was about to go into labor she could not get in touch with him. By chance she found a friend of his on Facebook who ran to get Mark at work.
Luckily Nienhuis's sergeant-major allowed him to go and the soldier arrived in front of his computer just in time, making it a very emotional moment.
Seeing his daughter wasn't the only good news for Nienhuis. After wards his sergeant-major gave him a battalion crest for having his child born on Memorial Day.
