Suspect robs Wood River gas station at gunpoint

(KMOV)-- Police are searching for a suspect accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint in Wood River, Illinois early Thursday morning.

The Wood River Police Department received a 911 call around 12:32 a.m. from the clerk at Wood River Q Shop located at 1 W. Edwardsville Road saying she had just been robbed at gun point.

Authorities said a white male, approximately 6', with facial hair, wearing a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, and multi colored shorts entered the store and displayed a handgun.

The suspect then demanded money from the cash register. The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash and some cigarettes.

A witness advised that they had observed a maroon or red, newer model vehicle similar to a Pontiac G6 leave the area shortly after the robbery.

Authorities said approximately 20 minutes later the same suspect broke into the Rivers Edge Gas Station located at 14700 Highway 67 in West Alton and stole a large amount of cigarettes and lighters.
